Jessup Hose Company # 2

34th Annual Carnival

333 Hill Street Jessup, PA

May 20 - 25, 2026

This is a decent first picnic of the season. It is not great but it is not bad. They have a variety of food and beverages and rides for the children. The prices are reasonable and the food is good. The bands are usually decent. They have a fireworks show. The St. Ubaldo race is on Saturday. My main complaint is the lack of parking. You may have to walk for blocks. The teenagers can be very rude and walk right into you paying more attention to their phone instead of where they are walking. But still it is a good start of the 2026 picnic season.

Lackawanna County Heritage Fair

Montage Mountain

June 4 - 7, 2026

Unless this "fair" has improved since the year that I attended. Don't waste your money. The year I went it took almost an hour and 1/2 to get up the mountain due to incompetent traffic control. The food was decent. Most of the food trucks and stands were under staffed and the wait was long. They do have rides for the children. The entry fee is now $15. When I went it was only $10. The bands range from decent to stinky the year I went. If you have children that like to ride the rides and swim in the water park then the $15 admission may be worth it. For adults who go for food and music it is not worth wasting $15.

Jefferson Township

Carnival on the mountain

405 Cortez Road Mt. Cobb, PA

June 9 - 13, 2026

This is a nice picnic with just a short drive from Scranton. The food is good and they have a huge variety. The beer is ice cold and close to the band stand. The bands usually are decent, especially Kartune. They have rides for the children and an indoor basket raffle. Other years they would have a fireworks show on the last night. My biggest complaint is the parking lot is a mud hole. Expect to spin your tires when you are leaving. All in all it is definitely worth a visit and it supports the fire fighters.

Mary Mother of God Parish

Block Party

Wayne Ave. and West Market St. Scranton, PA

June 12 & 13, 2026

This is one of the best of the season. The food is great and reasonably priced. This year they are adding walking tacos to the menu. The bands are amazing. Picture Perfect on Friday. The 335 on Saturday. Father Edwards is having the annual diaper derby where the children can run for the roses. The basket raffle is huge. They have plenty of games for children and adults. Join me in back by the food tent for a game of Irish Poker or Beat the House. The beer is ice cold in the large bar. If you miss this one you will miss one of the very best of the season. Get there early because parking can be tight.

Divine Mercy Parish

Church Picnic

312 Davis St. Scranton, PA

June 19 - 21, 2026

This too is one of the best of the season. The food is good and varied. The potato pancakes are great but the line is huge. Sometime an hour to get the pancakes. They have many games and fun things to do for both children and adults. The beer is ice cold but the beer tent is a little too small for my liking. The bands are usually decent. This is definitely one of the best. My complaint is there is little to no close by parking. Since I have a bad knee and walk with a cane parking two blocks away is not an option for me.

Elmhurst Roaring Brook Fire Company

Fireman's Picnic

Off Route 435

June 24-27, 2026

This is one of the best of the season. The food is great. The bands are great. All your friends will be there. Just a short ride from Scranton. Plenty of parking including handicapped parking. You can walk around with your beer. Games for children and adults. Huge basket raffle. The only bad thing is that very annoying siren at the hot wings stand. Don't miss this one or you will miss one of the best.

Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish

Traditional Polish Picnic

215 Lackawanna Avenue Dupont, PA

June 27, 2026 Between 1 and 8pm

Sacred Heart of Jesus in Dupont — June 27. Traditional Polish Picnic held Saturday from 1 to 8 p.m. on the parish church grounds, 215 Lackawanna Ave., Dupont. Homemade ethnic foods include pierogi, golombki (pigs in blanket), halushki, kielbasi, and potato pancakes. Also featuring theme baskets, games of chance, and live musical entertainment..The last time I went to this picnic is when it used to be 3 days. The food was good but they use annoying food tickets. The potato pancakes were great. The polka bands were boring. The beer was cold at the largest picnic bar in Luzerne County. Parking is tight and the neighbors are nasty. I never seen so many garbage cans blocking parking spots in my life. I doubt I will attend this year. I cannot rate because the picnic went to only one day and was three days when I was there.
